Duration of the course depends on the experience you bring to the course, the amount of practice you do and how quickly you learn.

We believe it takes time to become a skilled driving instructor. We recommend the most effective time frame is between 3-6 months. A committed student can complete the course in as little as 8 weeks.  It can be spread across a longer period if it suits your needs ( your RMS eligibility advice expires after 18 months).

The practical component consists of 27 contact hours and the theory component requires a minimum of 40 hours of home study.

All practical lessons must be in a dual control car. You may use your trainer’s car for the duration of the course if you do not have dual controls installed in your car. You would benefit from having your own car with dual controls to practise in though. Your trainer will help you decide on the type of car needed for teaching and where to get your dual controls fitted.
